Removal of one or both fallopian tubes
Salpingectomy removes the fallopian tube while leaving the ovary intact. It is most often performed for ectopic pregnancy, hydrosalpinx (a fluid-filled, damaged tube), or as a fertility-protective option prior to IVF when a damaged tube is reducing implantation success.
Common reasons
- Ectopic pregnancy within the tube
- Hydrosalpinx affecting fertility outcomes
- Chronic tubal infection unresponsive to medical treatment
Since one healthy ovary can still release eggs each cycle, natural hormone production is unaffected by tube removal alone.
